Day 15:Cinque Terre Free Day

Today is a free day. We can do whatever we want. I decided to buy an all-day train ticket and visit all 5 villages in the Cinque Terre. Then at the end of the day, we were all going to gather to watch the women's soccer finals between the USA and the Netherlands. Friendly rivalry here since Jody's home is the Netherlands! It was raining hard at breakfast, but I headed out anyway determined to see the towns. It took a while for the train to arrive at the station so I used my umbrella as rain protection and sought some shelter under flowered bushes. I decided to take the train to the end-at Riomaggiore, then work my way back to Monterosso. By the time the train arrived at Riomaggiore, the rain was a lot lighter and finally stopped. It didn't rain the rest of the day. The clouds cleared, the sun came out, and it was beautiful! I managed to see Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia and Vernazza. When I arrived in Monterosso, I joined the group for the soccer match. USA won! After the game I walked the hillside to the cemetery and the Church of Capuchin Friars. It was beginning to get dark so I headed back to the hotel to pack for tomorrow's departure to France.
