Day 17: Alps Free Day

Jody told us that she could get us tickets to go up the Gondola to the top of the Schilthorn at a tour discount. The weather was cooperating, so after our breakfast we met Jean at 7:45 am to take the drive to the gondola station. There were not many people there so we were able to get on. The ride up the cliff edge was steep. At each stop going up the mountain, we had to get out and get on another gondola. The first stop was Gimmelwald, the second was Murren, the third stop was Birg, then we reached the top at Schilthorn. We went through the clouds going up, but then it was sunny at the top. The views were spectacular. We could spend as much time as we wanted because Jody got us round-trip tickets. I saw the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau. I stayed about an hour then took the gondola down to Birg. I saw people doing the cliff side thrill walk-not me! There were also great views of the mountains. Then I went down to Murren and explored the town. I stayed about an hour then took the gondola to Gimmelwald and explored the cute village. I finally returned to Lauterbrunnen and decided to take the river path back to the hotel. I took my time and it took me 2 hours to get back. I kept stopping to get pictures. I rested a while then walked to the market for a salad. After dinner, I walked to Staubbach falls and climbed the hill to walk behind the falls. Afterwards, I went back to the hotel to write in my journal. What a day! We leave for France tomorrow, but I am going to have to come back to Switzerland!
