Day 19: Paris Walk

We met in the courtyard of the hotel at 7:45 am to walk to our coach and meet Jean for our 6 hour drive to Paris. We will have a rest break halfway through. We ran into a little rain on the way, but one we arrived in Paris, it was dry. Jody said we made record time traveling as we were at our hotel by 11:50 am. We checked in, said good-bye to Jean (he had to get back to Holland for another tour), then had free time until 2:30 pm when we met Jody for an orientation walk of Paris. She gave us our Metro and Museum passes, received an explanation of the Metro system, then boarded the Metro for the Hotel DeVille, crossed the Seine, walked past a flower market (becomes a bird market on Sundays), saw the Hall of Justice, then went to Saint Chapelle. Jody gave us our tickets and we were given 45 minutes to tour the church. The stained class windows were amazing. Then we walked to Notre Dame. We couldn't get very close because of the renovation and fencing, but we were able to see the bell towers which were not damaged by the fire back in April. We walked along the Left Back to the Latin Quarter and stopped to get cookies. We took the RER back to our hotel and the rest of the day was on our own. I had some dinner, then walked the neighborhood which was only a few blocks from the Eiffel Tower. I can't believe we are in Paris!!
