Rome

June, 2018

Today we visit the Borghese Gallery. Our day started with a glitch because the Rome transportation system decided to go on a day-long strike. The Borghese Gallery is a long way from our hotel, so Stacy hired some drivers to take us there. Traffic was very heavy and it took 25 minutes to get there. We met our local guide, Hillary. We were not allowed to bring bags in, so Hillary showed us to the lockers to lock them up. We had an assigned entry time and were limited to 2 hours to tour. We saw works by Bernini, Caravaggio and Raphael. After our tour, we met outside for our group picture, then Stacy led us through the park and we walked through the neighborhoods to the Spanish Steps. The rest of the day was on our own. I decided to walk to Piazza de Popolo and see the original entryway to Rome and see the old Roman wall. Fortunately, when I finished touring the Piazza, the transportation strike was over and I could take the Metro to San Giovanni so I could tour the grand church-had to pass security first. I hoped to also visit the Scala Santa holy Stairs, but the church doors were closed. Tonight was our last group dinner together at La Plancha. We were entertained by a gentleman playing guitar and singing Italian songs. It was a great evening!
