Pre-Tour Travel to England  Sunday, June 12

On My Way!

My first day in England was pre-tour. I took the Picadilly line from Heathrow to King's Cross station (about 1 hour travel time), headed for St. Pancras Station across the street and bought my train ticket for Canterbury. I had no problem finding the correct boarding platform #13. The ride to Canterbury was direct and only took about 1 hour. Once I arrived at the Canterbury West station about 12:15 pm, it was only a 12 minute walk into old town to my hotel, the Abode. I stored my bags until check-in and set out to explore the small town. I knew I needed to stay awake and walk off the jet-lag. I walked the footpath along the river Stour, headed for Canterbury Cathedral and walked the surrounding neighborhood. I went back to the hotel to check-in, then went back to Canterbury Cathedral for the Evensong service. I really enjoyed it. After the service, I grabbed a quick bite to eat then headed back out to take an evening stroll to Westgate Gardens. The sun was out and the town was very quiet. It was a beautiful night for pictures. I didn't want to stay out late because of my long travel day. Tonight, I retire EARLY!
