Day 7  Sunday, June 19

Corfe Castle, Chagford

Today was an early start. We checked out of our lovely hotel in Salisbury and boarded the coach for Swanage where we would catch a steam train to Corfe to visit Corfe Castle. The drive wasn't very long and we arrived early, so we had time to visit the little station shop. I bought some post cards. We had a special car reserved for our Rick Steves group. One of the tour perks! It was a short  20 minute train ride to Corfe. As you approach the station, you can see the old castle remains on the hill. The castle dates back to 1000 AD  but was destroyed in the 1600's by order of the Parliament. We were free to explore the ruins on our own for 2 hours. It didn't take me that long, so I headed back into town and discovered a miniature exhibit of the town. Then it was off to a sandwich shop before boarding the coach again heading for Chagford. We stopped for a break at the small coastal town of Westbay. Unfortunately, it was raining and there were low clouds, so we didn't see much of the English Channel. I took some pictures of the cliff and waterline. We didn't stay long-off to Chagford in Dartmoor National Park!
