Culloden

After our wonderful lunch at The Rowan Tree Country Hotel, we head for Culloden Battlefield to learn of the battle (April 16, 1746) between Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite troop against King George II of England. They wanted to put Prince Charlie on the throne but were horribly defeated at Culloden. This battle ended the Jacobite uprising and was the beginning of the end of the clans and the start of English oppression. There is an informative interactive museum that you pass through before going outside to the battlefield. It was raining when we arrived, but had let up a bit by the time we went outside to the battlefield. We passed mass graves that are marked by small headstones with the names of the clans that died here and were buried together. The Mackintosh grave was 77 yards long! In the center of the battlefield is a stone memorial.
