St. Andrews
After leaving Culross, we headed for St. Andrews-known for golf, and it is the college town of Will and Kate-the Royals. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to drive to St. Andrews, arriving a little after noon. First we were driven by the famous golf course near the North Sea. Then John drove us through the small town and dropped us off near Blackfriar's Abbey. We were set free to explore on our own for 2 1/2 hours. I headed directly to St. Andrew's Cathedral. It now sits in ruins, but it is an enormous site. From there, I walked along the ocean path to St. Andrews Castle which overlooks the North Sea. After visiting the Castle, I still had time to explore the town, using Rick Steves' guide which contains the St Andrews Town Walk. I still had a little time before we were to meet to grab a picnic lunch at a local grocery, then find a place to sit and rest near Blackfriars Abbey and people watch.
