Hadrian's Wall
Before leaving Vindolanda, Jamie suggested we buy a picnic lunch there to take with us to Housesteads Roman Fort where we hiked the steep hill to Hadrian's Wall. We encountered sheep in the field-had to watch where you walked, especially since it was raining off and on. We approached the wall, walked along the top of it, passed a gate, then sat down on wet stones to have our lunch. We were there for about 20 minutes. I would have liked to spend more time walking along the wall, but we needed to get to York, so we were off again!

Traveling to Housesteads Roman Fort, I could see from the coach window the remains of the wall running along the hill.
From the coach, I could see where the Mile Tower once stood along Hadrian's Wall. This is called Sycamore Gap for the large tree in the middle.
