14 Day Best of England 2016
Vindolanda
Jamie wanted to leave early today for Vindolanda to beat the crowds, so we were on the coach ready to leave by 8:30 am. It was a 90 minute drive from Keswick to Vindolanda. The weather didn't look promising. It was very cloudy and it rained off and on as we traveled to Vindolanda, the old Roman Fort. We beat the crowds and pretty much had the place to ourselves. We were there just as they were opening. We did not have a formal tour, just an hour to explore on our own. I had to rush to see everything because I wanted to get down to the museum which was at the far end of the site. I managed to get some pictures and make it to the museum which had fascinating objects that were excavated here. It amazes me that it is so well-preserved! It spit rain off and on, but wasn't bad. I enjoyed my visit, but would have liked to have more time.
