Lacock is a small village in the parish of Wiltshire. It is owned almost entirely by the National Trust and attracts visitors because it has been frozen in time. The population of the village is between 160 and 190. The Abbey was founded in 1232 AD. It developed a thriving woolen market in the middle ages. The Tithe Barn dates back to the 1300's. A tithe barn was a type of barn used in much of northern Europe in the Middle Ages for storing rents and tithes. Farmers were required to give one-tenth of their produce to the established Church. Tithe barns were usually associated with the village church or rectory, and independent farmers took their tithes there.

The village is used as a filming location due to it's historic street and buildings. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and the Half-Blood Prince was filmed here.
