Stow-On-The-Wold
Stow-on-the-Wold is a beautiful village in the middle of The Cotswolds, actually the highest point of the Cotswolds. This is historically sheep territory and Stow, like other villages in The Cotswolds, had sheep and cattle markets. The main street "High Street" needed to accommodate the herds of sheep and cattle that came here to market.
Stow was our home base for two days. The evenings were peaceful as the tourists left after visiting for the day. I enjoyed exploring the village in the evening-seeing the stocks on the market square and taking Rick Steves' recommended village walk. The walk features the Old Market Cross (500 years old), the "Wonky House" next to The Kings Arms, Sheep Street, the narrow "Fleece Alleys" and the old church door flanked by two ancient yew trees. (Inspiration for Lord of The Rings door into Moria??)

My comfortable room at the Old Stocks-home for the next two nights.
The room came with a hot pot and various teas, coffees, and creamers as well as tasty biscuits!
The owner of the pub and Jamie. They are good friends.
