14 Day Best of England 2016

Keswick Boat Tour

We had some sleep-in time today-didn't have to be down to breakfast until 8:00 am. Then we met Jamie in from of the hotel to walk to the marina. The sun is out, but clouds are hovering over the mountains. We departed the marina in our wooden boat around 9:30 and took the 1 hour circle around the lake with a few stops to let people on and off. There were several small islands in Derwentwater Lake. The water was a little choppy. I sat up front for camera views but ended up getting splashed by the water. I had to keep wiping off my camera lens. It was fun though. Some of our group got off to hike one of the mountains and another of our group got off to hike the trail along the lake back to Kewsick. Once our ride was over and we were back at the marina, Jamie took us on a 2 hour walk along the east side of the lake. Because of all the rain, it was quite muddy. After returning from our walk, the rest of the day was free. I headed out for a walk of the town mid-afternoon, but the rain started again. I waited an hour and it finally let up so I headed out. It is a small town and didn't take long to explore. I stopped at the grocery for a picnic dinner, the rain started again, so I headed back to the hotel. Jamie was going to take us on a walk to Castlerigg Stone Circle, but it was cancelled because of the rain. It was a good thing because other tourists staying at the hotel said the rain had washed out one of the bridges on the way to the circle. We all met at 5:30 in the breakfast room and Jamie had arranged a sample of cheeses, crackers and olives for us to try. Delicious!!
