14 Day Best of England 2016
York Orientation Walk
The drive to York from Hadrian's Wall took about 2 1/2 hours. It was a great time to doze off in the coach. We arrived in York at about 3:30 pm and it was time to day good-by to Ian, our wonderful coach driver. He was on to another tour and had to quickly get back to London. Ian dropped us off at out hotel-The Churchill-which was located just outside the old city walls of York. It was a GREAT location-within walking distance of the old city. We had time to get settled in until 5:30 pm when our group gathered for an orientation walk where we saw York Minster, The Shambles, then passed through Monkgate to our Indian dinner at The Viceroy. We were given a variety of Indian dishes from mild to spicy. The Indian bread was the best! When we left the restaurant, Jamie lead us up the city wall through the Monkgate. We walked the wall until we arrived at Booth Bar. I was able to get a great sunset picture of York Minster from the wall. Then we were on our own to head back to the hotel or explore York. I decided to explore York for a while. It was quiet in the evening and I enjoyed exploring. Then it was back to The Churchill to do some wash and prepare for tomorrow's adventures!
