14 Day Best of England 2016
London City Walk
This morning breakfast was at 7:30 am. It is travel day! Jamie organized taxis to transport our luggage to the train station, one group member rode in each taxi and the rest of us walked. It was a beautiful morning and I welcomed the walk since we would be riding in the train for 2 1/2 hours, then the bus in London. It only took us 15 minutes to walk to the train station. Jamie got our tickets, and we boarded train #7. We had reserved seats for the Rick Steves Tour and there were reservation cards on each seat back. We just chose a seat with a card and sat where we wanted! I chose a window set because I always have to take pictures of my journey. We arrived in London around 12:30 pm, retrieved our luggage and got on the coach. We went to Westminster Abbey and had a 30 minute lunch break. I was surprised how warm it was in London. I spent my lunch break walking around and getting familiar with the area, then we met up again and toured Westminster Abbey. No pictures were allowed inside. Our tour guide was very informative and I enjoyed it. The Abbey was crowded, but we were able to move among the crowds efficiently. The tour lasted about 1 1/2 hours. Afterwards, it was back to the coach and on to our hotel-The Fielding. Once there, I made my way up the narrow stairway (again, glad I packed light) to my room. We were given almost 2 hours to settle in before Jamie took us on a walking tour of China Town, Covent Garden, and Leicester Square. Jamie led us to a delightful pizza restaurant. The pizza was very good! The rest of the evening we were on our own so Patricia, Jan and I decided to walk to Trafalgar Square, down to Parlament, across the Thames and get a ride on the London Eye. It was dusk and the views from the London Eye were beautiful. Once our ride was over, it was almost 10:00 pm and we walked back to our hotel-caught up in the theater crowds that had just gotten out of the shows and were headed to the pubs. There was a flood of people on the streets. It was so exciting!
